In a shocking turn of events, BP has declined the help of one of our worlds top oceanic experts… James Cameron?

Yes that’s right, last month Cameron voiced his outrage that the company had chosen to forego his help and advice in what is now shaping up to be one of the most devastating oil spills of all time. He was featured in THE WEEK Magazine last week proving that it will take more than a resounding “NO” from one of the world’s most lucrative oil companies to fend off Cameron’s help,

“So unconvinced is Cameron by BP’s response to the spill that he brought together more than 20 scientists, engineers and federal officials in Washington on Tuesday to brainstorm a new solution “I know a lot of smart people who regularly work a whole lot deeper than that well,” he commented”- THE WEEK

And while I have no doubt that the director’s experience underwater during the filming of the 1989 Blockbuster hit The Abyss made him an expert on all problems concerning the deep ocean, BP seems unconvinced that Cameron could really help. However, BP as well as the rest of us cant afford to turn away from any and all help being offered, so lets hope they can find a solution so– with, or without Cameron’s help.

Check out the article @ http://theweek.com/article/index/203723/james-cameron-vs-bp

On June 7, 2010 AdvertisingAge published an article in their Small Agency Diary called “Cocktail Vision: The Answer to Great Creative”. This article written by Darryl Ohrt presents an interesting and definitely innovative way to spice up your agency’s creative work, what does he suggest?? Drinking! Well not exactly, that would be too good to be true. However throughout the article he does focuses on the idea of a “two-cocktail buzz” and the benefits of working with, shall we say, a tipsy state of mind…

With your inhibitions lowered, you’d likely say “yes” to things that you’d typically over-think and turn down, if completely sober […] Two drinks gives you the confidence to sell your idea like it’s the best thing your organization has never done. Two drinks gives you enough of a confident swagger to tell the client she’s wrong. – Ohrt

Now while Ohrt (and the Ad Store) are not advocating “working under the influence” (WUI) perhaps his article has a point, are our inhibitions getting the way and preventing us from making the decisions that perhaps were just too scared to make? I guess there’s only one way to find out, the team over here at The Ad Store will just have to bite the bullet, test his theory, and report back

I don’t know about you, but everyone over here at The Ad Store seems to be riled up over the 32 National Teams that will come together this summer, in South Africa, to compete to be the best. The first game is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday June 11 when at 10:00am (eastern time) you can tune in to watch South Africa and Mexico start us off! Everyone has their favorites and common’ we’re no exception, plus due to our loyal enthusiasts we have some exciting, albeit conflicting, predictions to share, check it out…

Cisco placed his bet on Argentina, and Gabriel agrees but thinks it’s very
possible that Spain might also have what it takes. Whereas Tim, whose
confidence in England is almost unwavering, has proclaimed he thinks Italy
will take it yet again, predicting England unfortunate loss in the quarterfinals.
And most controversial of all Gunner has put his faith in one of the
competitions underdogs, the USA!

Needless to say were all excited to see what going to happen here at the Ad Store, and if you are too go to: http://tiny.cc/c33rm for access to an online calendar, that is a interactive and easy way to keep yourself informed on upcoming games throughout the summer, and of course track which of your Ad Store favorites might have gotten it right!

Sn-OMG! Snomaggedon. Snowpocalypse.

Thanks for tuning in — we’re keeping busy with the latest and greatest live coverage of the snowstorm here at The Ad Store. No snow day for us, but luckily the office is cozy warm. Yes, we made the several blocks trek in the still falling and rapidly accumulating winter white stuff — who’d feed the office kitty otherwise? The snow is knee-deep in some places…well…I’m only 5′2″, so that’s probably a relative measurement…

Now the question on all of our minds: Will there be so much snow by the end of the day that we’re trapped in the building, and will we have to resort to cannibalism?

Yes. Today we received our very own copy of the 2010 calendar “Men and Cats.” The cover (and the month of July) feature our very own Francisco “Cisco” Wong and his kitties, Lucas and Simone. The proceeds go to the organization PUPP, which provides free and low-cost pet assistance to the elderly and disabled. You can order your copy here.

Since becoming a cover model, Francisco is unbearable, by the way. His coffee order has become increasingly complicated — and he doesn’t even drink coffee. He’s constantly throwing things at the interns while screaming, “Do you know who I am? Well, do you?” Oh, the ravages of fame.

(Okay, I made that last part up.)
